Hi ,
Years ago, someone sent me a list entitled, "Why the Genesis Flood Cannot Be Global". This man is a "progressive creationist", which is essentially another evolutionary model with God conveniently attached to help make
it palatable. By necessity, this model cannot accept that the flood of Noah's day was a global event. So, he prefaces his list by stating: "While there is no denying the Bible teaches the Genesis flood was universal, at least fourteen biblical and scientific reasons exist for concluding the Flood was local...."
Stop right there! Nowhere in the Bible does it say or imply that it was "universal". This was his first attempt to derail the global nature of this event. By claiming it was "universal" rather than global, he can then redefine the extent of the
event to accommodate a weaker version of the flood, and so open the door for his modified evolutionary beliefs. So, what follows today and over the next few weeks is my brief response to each of his 14 reasons why the flood was just a local event - which are neither biblical nor scientific....
1. THE EXTENT AND IMPACT OF MAN'S SIN WAS NOT GLOBAL.
He claims that modern Christians have confused a universal flood with a global flood. No, they have not - he has confused the issue. A universal flood (defined by him as a local flood) doesn't make biblical sense.
Do any of the following scriptures indicate a local flood scenario?:
a. Genesis 6:13b - "...the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely gong to destroy both them and the earth." A simple reading of the words "the earth was filled" certainly would indicate that the entire earth was filled with sinful man, and not just a certain portion. Also, God promised here that He was
also going to destroy the earth, too - not just flood a given local area.
b. Gen. 7:19 - They (the waters) rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.” Note: All the high mountains under the entire heavens. (See
also Gen. 6:17.) Refer also to II Peter 3:5-7, where this disciple is obviously linking the similarity of the judgment (deluge) of the past with the judgment to come, which is certainly global.
c. Gen. 9:11-17 - The rainbow has been designed by God as a sign that the waters of the earth will never again become a flood and destroy the earth. If the flood of Noah’s time was local, then God lies every time a rainbow appears at a localized flood that has proved
destructive.
