It will read something like this ~ “Evidence suggests" that this animal, or that bird, can do such-and-such because of evolution. Or, “studies suggest” that this amazing phenomenon has evolved in a certain way.
It would be just as reasonable (in fact, even much more so!) to say that the evidence or studies actually suggest incredible design. They cannot say that, of course, because that would imply creation.
Something might seem obvious to the human mind, like thinking that the animal or bird that's being described is amazing in design, then the suggestion is inserted that leads you toward a different conclusion. This seems to me to be what happened with Eve. The devil initially “suggested" to her that the information she had been given could be called into question. After that, it became more blatant.
Isn’t that often the way it is with sin, too? The Bible tells us that we sin when we are drawn away by our own lusts (James 1:14). Often, the temptation comes in a simple “suggestion" format. Nothing overt. But then it quickly changes when the simple suggestion, playing on our weaknesses, turns into serious temptation if we allow the suggestion to get any kind of a
foothold.
People make the choice once a “suggestion" is offered, whether the suggestion offers alternatives or not. I imagine that this might be part of what Paul means when he talks about "taking every thought captive" (II Cor. 10:5), and further, when he exhorts us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2).
Pastor Paul Maulfair once referred to our minds as "expensive real estate" that two parties are fighting for.
God help me to make the conscious choice to take captive the thoughts that "suggest" an alternative to what God wants, and to renew my mind to keep doing so!
