Hi
,
King Hezekiah was desperate! The king of Assyria, Sennacharib, was attacking him with a huge army. There was little hope. He went to the temple and prayed, and sent a message to Isaiah (the prophet) asking him to intercede, too. In the end, God sent a consoling message to Hezekiah that included this astounding revelation and message to Sennacharib:
"Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it. In days of old I planned it: now I have brought it to pass...." (Is. 37:26)
What had He brought to pass? The rest of the message describes that God specifically ordained and planned that this Godless, arrogant king would lay waste the nations he attacked! God, for whatever purposes suited Him, allowed Sennacharib to succeed, at least up to that point. God had further plans for this king - disastrous plans!
So, here we are at another momentous day! Not as serious as Hezekiah's, but certainly a day we have all been concerned about and praying over. And, as Christians, we all know that decisions we make should be made through the lens of God's Word. As such, when I consider various issues found in scripture - such as murder (abortion), support for Israel (the Abrahamic covenant), religious
liberty, etc. - the choice for me becomes clear.
However, even though we make these choices based on God's revealed Word, we also know that "long ago He ordained and planned" the victory of the candidate that will accomplish His purpose, whatever that purpose currently is. We pray that "His will will be done on Earth as it is in heaven" - and it will! That's the comfort to me! The whole creation plan, and life itself, is His idea. He
designed it all for His glory, so I'm delighted to be smack in the middle of where God's plan has me, regardless of who wins.
So, in any election, the temporary depression that will inevitably enter my soul if the candidate I vote for loses, will be tempered by the truth that this is specifically what God wanted to happen, and HE is the one who watches over us and takes care of us!
