I am sometimes asked how we know if the Bible can be trusted. It's a great question since truth has been sidestepped in so many ways. If we think we'll get to the truth of a given issue by watching, listening to, or reading media outlets, we're
really only fooling ourselves. A story might be true, or half true, or totally fictitious. As we all know, many media outlets provide stories that are too often mainly focused on whatever it might take to increase the number of viewers.
The Bible needs no such sensationalism. But, can it be trusted? Absolutely! Here are a few reasons why:
1. The Bible teaches us a reasonable account of origins. Design is in fact evident in everything around us; random chance is not!
2. Much of the history of the earth, as recorded in the Bible, has been verified by modern geology and archaeology.
3. Virtually all of the modern fields of science were established by scientists who believed in the biblical message. Science is, after all, the attempts by man to answer questions or to solve problems. While the Bible doesn't claim to be a science book, it certainly provides a solid framework from which to launch all attempts at learning.
4. There is an incredible consistency throughout the Bible even though its 66 books were written by many different authors over a span of more than 2,000 years! It is essentially one, amazing story! There is no way that it could have been written in this way without a supernatural guiding of the writers so that it all fits together so
perfectly.
5. Fulfilled prophecy is one of the most amazing proofs of the solidity and truth of the Bible! Every prophecy that can come true on the earth by now - HAS! Even the many prophesies about the coming of the Messiah ALL came true in the life of Jesus. There is no way that so many prophets, who lived at different places and at different times, could have all been so
accurate about different aspects of Jesus' life without the Holy Spirit guiding them!
The Bible is God's Word! It is trustworthy! Time, history, various sciences, evidence of design, and prophesies attest to it. It is the one book we indeed can lean on for truth, safety, and comfort at any time.
