We know that the vessel was occupied by some of Jesus' disciples, and that He was the one sleeping in the boat, completely unbothered by the storm. (The account is found in Matthew, Mark, & Luke.) He rebuked his disciples for their lack of faith. They had already seen
some of His miracles, but this situation stretched them.
It seems to me that among other lessons that could be gleaned from this account, the Mighty Creator was at least letting us know that there will indeed be "storms" in our lives. And, you can label the waves any way you'd want, according to your situation. The waves could be labelled "the news", or more specifically, things going on in the news - impeachment, corona virus, socialism, election... Or, they could be more personal - your
marriage, your kids, your job situation, church split, illness, death....
Remember that the storm did not take Jesus by surprise. He knew it was coming. It's the same with the storms in our lives. He knows! He cares! HE HAS A PLAN! You and I cannot possibly know what God is doing in each of these situations, but we simply need to have faith that we are indeed in His arms.
Those who do not know the Creator have no such perspective, nor can they know the real peace He offers. They're on their own in the storms of life!
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. -- Is. 26:3
