Take this brief, two-question quiz...
1. Which of the two people pictured to the right is older?
2. How do you know?
Did you check their birth certificates? Did you confirm their ages with their parents? I'll bet you didn't!
So then, how can you possibly know that the human in the lower picture is older than the one in the upper photo? You would know it by your experience with humans. You have many reference points. You know from seeing people each and every day more-or-less where they are in the human experience of age. You can usually look at a person and fairly accurately guess how old they are. Right? So the human in the top picture is less than a year old, while the
person in the bottom picture is probably in his 80s, more or less.
OK, now look at the pictures below.
How old are the cliffs and rock formations pictured here? 1 million years? 5 million years? What about 100 million years? More?
How about 46 years for the cliff on the left, and 52 years for the cliffs on the right! The rocks on the left are the leading edge of the volcanic flow on Heimaey Island that occurred in 1973, and the other shows cliffs of Surtsey Island that literally formed out of the sea during volcanic eruptions in 1967 (both just south of Iceland, and we just saw them several months ago while we were filming there!)
They look like any other "old" cliffs in the world. People are told that the earth is VERY old, so they just assume that this is what an "old" Earth looks like! But, we have nothing to compare these with like we do with humans. There are no reference points.
Remember that billions of years is the main ingredient in the "recipe" of evolution. And this concept of a billions-of-years-old Earth is even widely accepted by many people who claim not to believe in Darwinism. The main reason is because it's what they're taught - virtually everywhere! People get so used to hearing it that they simply assume it's true.
So, when people look at features of the earth like these, they just assume that what they're seeing is billions of years old. They assume this is what an old earth looks like.
Looks can obviously deceive!
