Evolutionists have used the story of the peppered moth for years to show how evolution supposedly works through natural selection. The story goes something like this....
The peppered moth is found in two basic forms – light and dark. Many years ago, before the Industrial Revolution in England, the dark ones were rare because when they sat on the light-colored trees they stood out much more than the light-colored ones, and so they were easy to spot by the birds that
liked to eat them. However, during the Industrial Revolution the trees began to get dark because of pollution from nearby factories. Now the lighter moths were easier to see because they stood out against the dark background, so they began to get eaten while the dark ones became more numerous. Later on, when the pollution was cleaned up, the trees began to get lighter again and so the darker moths began to be seen easier. So, they diminished in number because of the birds,
while the lighter ones became more numerous again because they were harder to see now against the lighter trees. These shifts in populations were well documented. Birds were filmed eating these moths off of the trees.
Does this story give us a good example of Darwinian evolution in action? Absolutely not. It does show how natural selection can work, but it shows no evolution happening at all. The peppered moths are still peppered moths. Even if this went on for many millions of years, there is still no way
that the moth can become more complex and change into another type of creature.
But, the story doesn’t end there. It was discovered that peppered moths don’t even rest on trees during the day! Scientists still don’t know where they rest. So, what about the photographs of birds eating them off the trees? The photographs were faked! The moths used in the pictures
were ones that were bred in a laboratory, and then placed on the trees by the very people doing the photography! In some cases, dead moths were glued to the trees so that the birds could be filmed eating them!
Thankfully, even many evolutionists are throwing out this whole story. They realize that it just doesn’t prove anything they had hoped it would, and that the “evidence” is false. Unfortunately, many millions of students around the world don’t know this. They still are taught that the peppered
moth story is good evidence for evolution.
