Hi ,
It seems amazing to me that there are people who actually believe the earth is flat. But since there apparently is a growing number who do, we'll continue where we left off
last week. We looked at five evidences then, and here are more:
6. Different constellations - If the earth is flat, we should be able to see the same constellations from anywhere. But, we can't. The further a person moves to the north or south of the Equator, the further specific constellations drop to the horizon, and are "replaced" by different stars.
This can only happen if the earth is a shere.
7. Gravity - A mass will attract things to it. Earth is a big mass, and has an attraction called gravity. Gravity pulls toward the center of the mass. A sphere has a consistent shape such that no matter where you stand on it, you have the same amount of sphere under you. The center of the sphere is also
the center of its mass, so that gravity will pull anything on its surface straight toward the middle of the sphere.
So, if the earth is flat, then it is a flat plane, and the center of its mass would be in the middle. So, if you stand in the middle, gravity would seem normal. However, if you move in any direction away from the center, gravity will start to pull you
sideways, not straight down!
