Hi
,
Volcanoes. They're suddenly in the news these days, with Hawaii and Guatemala heading up the stories. Both of these areas are within the Pacific Ring
of Fire, where 90% of all volcanoes and earthquakes occur. There is a good reason for that, too!
First, though, consider the idea of plate tectonics, which proposes that
molten material coming from deep inside the earth moves to the surface at the oceanic ridges, then spreads to the east and west from there as a 30-mile-thick plate. These plates then "subduct", or plunge, beneath the edges of continents. This subduction causes heat, which causes volcanic and earthquake activity. Sounds reasonable.
However, look at the map below. The Pacific
Oceanic Ridge can be seen coming from the middle bottom of the image straight north, then "hugging" the west coast of the USA. This ridge is supposedly responsible for the Ring of Fire (seen in red), where 90% of the earthquake and volcanic activity occur.
Can you see a problem? Look at the Atlantic Ocean. Look at the mid-Atlantic Ridge. It's MUCH larger than the Pacific one. If molten material is rising there, then certainly the same thing should be happening in the Atlantic. And if it is, there should be far more earthquakes and volcanoes in the eastern portion of the Americas, western Europe and western Africa. But, they're rare in
these places, at least compared to the Pacific region.
A far better answer to this issue can be seen by clicking on the button below, if you'd like to take the time to
read into it. The global flood and its aftermath are directly responsible for the extreme damage that has been inflicted upon the earth. The Bible, while not giving us all of the details, provides a fascinating framework of information to puzzles like this that can then be better understood by the scientific community.
