Did you ever hear people say that science has the answers? The last time we heard it was from a woman at a convention who was taking a certain position on the earth's history that was unbiblical and certainly pro-evolution. She was argumentative on the point
and concluded her various remarks by stating that she "believes what science teaches".
It's very important to remember that science doesn't teach anything! Science has no opinions. Science is a tool, and is the process that people use to try to answer questions or solve
problems. Very often it's the interpretations of the research that determines what a person will believe. It's also important to remember that bias also often comes into play here. In many cases, people have pre-determined what they believe about something, for whatever reason, and then look for any evidence (real, imagined, or skewed) that can be used to support those beliefs.
It's also interesting to note that people become most argumentative over issues that science either can't prove empirically, or fall outside the realms of observable science. This indicates that they have a strong belief in something that they feel has come under question.
Lastly, if we claim to be Christians who believe in the authority of the Word of God, we are skating on thin ice to rely on scientific interpretations to determine biblical truth.
