Hi
,
I'm always amazed at the many attempts to blend portions of the evolution model with creation. But, why? What's the point? Normally the subject concerns the age of the earth and universe. So, it's all
about the "time".
It's important to always remember two things about the biblical model of creation:
1. Creation was "ex nihilo" (from nothing). Romans 4:17 reminds us of God's incredible ability to call into
being things that don't exist!
2. Creation was instantaneous. Psalm 33:9 says, "For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast." It does not say that He spoke, and it eventually came to be! It's the same issue with the miracles Jesus performed when He walked the Earth - they were both instantaneous and perfect.
Remember that the Darwinian evolution model MUST include many millions and billions of years. Since it cannot be observed to be happening, the very long time frames are invoked to help the imagination along. Long periods are the main ingredient to the "recipe" of evolution. Creation knows no such time frame. So, it's always confusing to me when Christians try to blend the
two.
OK, so we know about the "Day/Age Theory" that presumes that the days of creation were "ages" rather than literal days. Then we have the "Gap Theory", that proposes that there was an old earth and space that God had created millions or billions of years ago. This is supposedly what Genesis 1:1 is all about. In this model, He destoyed that
earth system, and then in verse 2, He created the earth that we have now. So a "gap" is assumed between verse 1 and verse 2. These two ideas have been around for a while. Then, of course, there are the theistic evolutionists and the "progressive creationists", etc. All of them believing in billions of years.
Here's a new one, though (new to me, at least):
The days of creation were literal days, yes. BUT....what about IN BETWEEN those days, huh? I guess you and I hadn't thought of that one! Yes, indeed! Billions of years between those literal creation days will do just fine, apparently.
Sigh...... Here we go again.....
