Hi ,
We often associate the camel with Christmas scenes, particularly those of
the wise men who came from the east. But, consider the camel from God's amazing creative perspective. Here are some interesting things you might not know about this animal...
1. A camel's hump (or humps) contain stored fat, which they can metabolize when food or water are scarce.
2. They have a third,
clear eyelid that protects their eyes from blowing sand.
3. They also have a second set of long eyelashes in 2 rows which also serve to protect their eyes from blowing sand.
4. Their nostrils can be completely shut. This serves the same purpose - to protect them from the sand.
5. They have thick lips which enable them to eat a large variety of plants, including ones with thorns.
6. A camel can drink 30 gallons of water in about 13 minutes! They re-hydrate faster than any other animal.
7. They can reportedly survive up to 6 months without food or water!
8. Camels often greet each other by blowing in each others' faces. If they feel threatened, they will spit on you!
9. Camels can run at 25 mph for long periods, but can run as fast as 40 mph.
10. Camels have oval-shaped red blood cells that aid in blood flow when water is scarce.
Every single creature on the face of the earth exhibits amazing creative design. How privileged we are to be able to celebrate the birth of Jesus - the Designer!
Have a very merry Christmas!
