Hi ,

Here's an interesting question for you... What's the difference between a moth and a butterfly? They are both called Lepidoptera, since they both have wings with scales on them.  The scales give them their colors and patterns. But they do have differences. Here are ten interesting facts:
MOTHS
1. Nocturnal (mainly active at night).
2. Rest with their wings spread out.
3. Bodies are typically thicker.
4. Bodies are normally "furrier".
5. Have larger, feathered antenna.
6. Spin a cocoon to transform.
7. Moths typically are smaller.
8. Moths tend to be drab in color.
9. There are MANY more species.
10. Moths have a frenulum which joins the forewing to the hindwing.
BUTTERFLIES
1. Diurnal (mainly active in daytime)
2. Rest with their wings up.
3. Bodies are more slender.
4. Bodies are smoother.
5. Antenna are thin with a "knob" at the end.
6. Turn into a chrysalis to transform.
7. Butterflies tend to be larger than moths.
8. Butterflies tend to be colorful.
9. Far fewer species than moths.
10. Butterflies do not have a frenulum.

Both of them beautiful members of the insect world God created! You might be able to identify those around your house better now...

In Christ,
