The history of the world is viewed from two completely separate perspectives. The biblical worldview holds that the earth is perhaps up to 7,000 years old. The alternative view is that the earth is billions of years old.
All determinations of history and scientific occurrences are interpreted from these two jump-off points. Only one is true - they can't both be!
Obviously, I believe in the biblical account. This account gives me the history of the world, why it looks the way it does, why it and its occupants are in the condition
that it is, and what will happen to it in the future. I'm not alarmed at all with this perspective as my basis since this has proved completely trustworthy over the years.
Therefore, the basics...
1 - God made the world in a perfect original condition (Gen. 1 & 2).
2 - The curse changed a lot of things for the worse (Gen. 3).
3 - The global flood changed the earth physically and dramatically! (Gen. 6-9).
So, without going into all of the minutia regarding "climate change", I'll simply say that climate change is inevitable since we are told in various places in the Bible that the earth is "wearing out like a garment". This is directly due to the curse and the global flood. We will see these effects until the end of
time.
But, what would this "wearing out" look like? One issue would be climate change. Immediately following the global flood, and due to the forces involved, the atmosphere changed dramatically to produce the one ice age that the earth has experienced. Once this ice cap reached its zenith, long after the
flood ended, it began to reverse. The ice caps began to melt and retreat. This, of course, changed the atmosphere again as well as adding more water to the oceans. In many ways, we are still seeing the very tail end of this issue today. Receding glaciers and polar caps that adjust their ice mass from time to time are simply a part of this process.
So, it doesn't worry me one bit if carbon dioxide levels are up or if they're down, or specifically what's causing it. Remember a fundamental truth here -- God made the earth to be inhabited. So, the minor changes in the atmosphere since the global flood will not affect the earth's ability to maintain life here right up to the end. continued...
