Two theories of the mechanism for the global flood remain after the final collapse of the former paradigm called the Canopy Theory. One is called the Catastrophic Plate Tectonic Theory (CPT), and the other is the Hydroplate Theory
(HPT).
Since proponents of both theories sincerely believe that the Bible is accurate and true, and since the Bible itself is silent on the actual mechanism, it's OK to bounce ideas around and have differing opinions as to the how.
However, here is where human weakness can step in. As you know from our material, we accept HPT theory as being more biblically accurate and scientifically plausible than CPT. Our video on the global flood entitled, "The Horror of the Flood", includes an animation of the hydroplate theory.
But, taking this position has not gone unnoticed, nor has it been without cost to us over the years. It's understandable that there are places where I am neither allowed to speak, nor sell our videos because of this. However, it's completely wrong when people who prefer HPT theory are labelled as "non-serious creationists", or have "theological problems", or are even labeled as "non-Christians"! This is classic
"name-calling" designed to ridicule people who have an opposing view. This represents the dark side of human reaction when "toes are stepped on", or when prestige or income is threatened due to the presence and/or the increasing popularity of one theory over another.
We, as Mission Imperative, will continue to unabashedly teach the absolute truth
and reliability of God's Word. Where God's Word is not absolutely clear, we are willing to consider various views -- like the theories of the mechanism that produced the global flood. And, after much evaluation, we are happy to promote HPT, not as biblical truth, but as the most trustworthy theory that represents the biblical narrative and scientific observability.
