Creation is not a science theory; it is a biblical assertion of God's design and originality overwhelmingly supported by evidence. When the Bible claims that something happened, we, as biblical
creationists, assume it to be true. But, the inquisitive among us wonder as to how the thing happened. This is where it gets interesting -- and sticky!
Take the global flood, for instance. The evidence for it on the earth today is actually quite overwhelming. However, the Bible gives us very few details of the event. All of the major
aspects (that it was global, a judgment of God, produced the sedimentary layers and the mountain ranges, buried billions of creatures, including dinosaurs, etc.) are accepted by true creationists. But, how.... how did it happen?
Different theories have been postulated over the years and some became paradigms, not necessarily because they
were true, but because they were widely promoted by those who were leaders in the field. One theory that supposedly added a lot of water to the event was called the "canopy theory" -- a pre-flood canopy of water vapor that existed above the earth. During the flood, it collapsed and added as much as 40' of water to the flood. This became the flood paradigm, though some doubted it. This doubt increased over time, and spread, and the theory was finally fully scrapped in 2013.
Two theories now remain - the Catastrophic Plate Tectonic Theory (CPT), and the Hydroplate Theory (HPT).
CPT is a theory that accepts the major tenets of the secular Plate Tectonic Theory, but
without the billions of years. The theory is compressed into the year of the flood; hence "catastrophic". It also claims that most of the water for the flood was already on the surface; it just became a tsunami.
HPT assumes that the "fountains of the great deep" (Gen. 7:11 ) were deep waters that by the time of the flood had reached supercritical temperatures. The release of this water at the time of the flood (II Peter 3:6) was catastrophic, and produced all of the features we now see on the planet, through known laws of physics, very rapidly.
CPT is widely promoted by many of the same organizations that promoted the canopy theory - through magazines, public speaking, books, etc. As such, it is closer to paradigm status than HPT, which is only promoted through speakers and the book, "In The Beginning", by Dr. Walter Brown, originator of the theory.
