Hi ,
How can we evaluate if something is true? Start by considering the source for trustworthiness. Then look at the evidence to see if it supports it.
For example, the Bible teaches that God created everything in the universe. So first, is the Bible trustworthy to the point where we can believe such a claim? And, do we see design evident in everything that can be studied? Furthermore, do we see order and purpose to everything? The Bible claims to be the inspired, inerrant Word of God. To
evaluate its trustworthiness, consider just a few topics:
1. The theme is consistent throughout the entire volume, even though it was penned by many men over a vast space of time.
2. It is the only book that includes information about God's involvement from the beginning of time the entire way through to the end.
3. Within its pages, there is a vast number of prophecies (which are predictions of future events communicated to prophets by God over the years). Every one was accurately fulfilled! That is, every one that could be ~ there are still a few that are meant for the future.
4. There have been numerous archeological discoveries over the years that have verified many of the accounts of
historical events recorded in the Bible.
5. Even though the Bible is not a science book per se, when it touches on topics related to science, it always proves accurate.
6. The Bible claims that God changes the lives of people who believe its message. That has always proved to be the case in the past, and it still does
today!
So, when the Bible claims that God created everything in the beginning, we have confidence that the source of the claim is very trustworthy. This does not even begin to touch on the topic of the evidence. Evidence for design is found in absolutely everything we see in the natural world. (continued...)
