Hi ,
Pontius Pilate, in talking to Jesus just before He was executed, asked Him a very simple, but profound question: "What is truth?" Of course, Pilate didn't realize that he was talking to the very person who could have answered that question to perfection. Even if he did, he wasn't actually interested
in the answer to his question. His world revolved around politics and maintaining his power.
But it does beg the question, however. What actually is "truth". Here are
different definitions from several dictionaries --- Truth is "that which is in accordance with fact or reality" or " fidelity to an original or standard" or "the state of being fact".
We often hear people say something like this today --- "Well, that is your truth. I have a different truth" or "That's true for you, but not for me." Those are actually incorrect statements. What they really mean is, "You have your opinion, and I have mine." Truth transcends opinion.
An example would be something like this: I do not like sweet potatoes. But, the next person might actually love them. So, the statement would be made that my truth is that I don't like sweet potatoes, but your truth is that you do. Actually, the real truth in this instance is that the sweet potato has a particular flavor. That is what's true about the sweet potato. My "opinion" of that flavor is what I'm referring to. The person who likes it has an opinion about the flavor, too.
In the spiritual world, it's the same.... (continued next week)
