I want to take a moment to thank you for your questions, thoughts and prayers over these last two weeks since my surgery. Many of you have written emails and cards during this time and they are highly appreciated!
So, this is a quick response to the questions. First -- The surgery took six hours. The surgeon told Carrie that the nerves and muscles were very inflamed, and that I desperately needed this surgery. So, we’re delighted that it could be scheduled in a timely manner. Then, they had originally thought that I’d be just one or two nights in the hospital. It wound up
being six nights, mainly due to a fever that developed. Carrie was able to bring me home last Tuesday.
Recovery is going to take six months, the first three of which will be somewhat critical. I have to wear two braces. One of them I wear virtually all of
the time (except when sleeping), and is designed to keep me more or less straight so that proper healing can take place. The other one I have to wear for two hours each day. It’s an electrical device that speeds up the healing of the bone. I will have to wear this each day until the end of December.
Right now I am still in considerable pain on and off. It’s not a complaint, just a statement of fact, currently. I’m taking a lot of different medications. Carrie is doing an absolutely masterful job of managing everything!
One of the therapists told me the other day that it’s still going to be some time before I can go down to my office and get any work done. So, first of all, especially for those of you going on any of our safaris this year, please rest assured that I will get to everything that’s still to be done in a timely manner. If you have any questions, I can answer them from my
iPad.
