Hi ,
Yes, indeed! The slug! But, before you just dismiss this as
gross, read just a bit! It might even fascinate you what a slug can do when it’s attacked!
So, the first thing you’re probably wondering is who or what would attack a slug? Normally in the wild, when one creature attacks another one, it’s either for food or for defense. Well, since a slug does not pose too much of a threat to any other
creature, it’s likely going to be for food. But, what in its right mind would even think a slug is something to eat?! Actually, lots of creatures eat slugs - from various insects, to small carnivores, to birds. And those creatures will make quick work of a slug since it has no shell like a snail. It doesn't have time to activate its defense mechanism.
Slugs have a defense mechanism? Yes, they actually do! And, it's quite amazing! Briefly, the very same slime they use to walk on can be activated all over their bodies. Not only does this smell bad, but it creates a thick, slimy, sticky barrier that a creature has to want to get through! But, can they?
