Hi ,
Heroes are often not obvious. Many times they are overlooked
and unappreciated. For example, consider the quarterback, the running back, or the receivers in a football team. They are the ones who handle the ball so they are the ones who get the most attention and who everybody hears about all the time. But, those guys would accomplish absolutely nothing if it wasn’t for all the other members who keep the opponents away from those carrying the ball. They get very little attention.
It’s often the same with a ministry. Speakers or pastors are the ones who everybody sees, so they are the ones who get the attention. But behind every one of those people is some sort of a staff, or helpers in some way. They go about their jobs basically unnoticed.
It’s also true with our ministry, Mission
Imperative. I am the one that everybody sees when I speak, and I’m the one who appears in all of our videos, etc. And, my “staff“ includes our board, of course. However, the core person behind the scenes, without whom our ministry could not function, is my wife, Carrie. She is the important part of the team that is often unseen. Her work is critically important, though.
She provides constructive criticism when needed, and often has excellent ideas. She also mainly manages the "business" end of our ministry. She does all of the “nasty” stuff that I cannot do. This includes staying on top of all of the many details regarding tax licenses for each state in which we sell products, keeping track of all of the ministry financial transactions, and dealing with lots of “red tape”. She also
writes the letters that accompany all of our monthly donor receipts, which she also prepares single-handedly. Furthermore, she’s much better than I am at interacting with people, so she is a huge asset in churches and conventions, etc. where I speak, especially since she handles the book table that we normally set up. And, she has a keen eye for what books and DVDs we need to take to each place where I speak. She prepares everything in advance, making my job so much easier! She proofreads
everything I write (except this letter!), and I rely on her insights and wisdom if things need to be modified. Are you perhaps getting an idea of how crucial she is to our ministry?
So, besides being the wonderful "help meet" to me personally in many ways, and having been a superb mother and teacher of our three children, she has filled a
crucial need as our ministry has grown! I'm so grateful to the Lord for giving her to me, to our children, and to our ministry!
