Hi ,
What would keep a person from trusting in Christ? What are the issues that would keep someone from believing the Bible? Or, a portion of it?
There are many answers to this question, and each person knows what they are for him or herself. When the scriptures instruct us as believers to be ready to give an account for the hope that is in us (1 Peter 3:15), that would imply that we have been growing in our faith and understanding of the Word, and hopefully studying the various
matters of the scriptures so that we can reasonably defend what we believe as workmen who are not ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15). We do not know when something we say or do, or an answer we give, might tip someone over the edge and into faith! And, it could be simple things, or perhaps only one thing!
As an example, a story was told to me of an elderly man who started to attend a Bible study. He was an unbeliever. The Bible study was going through the account of the flood. When the leader of the study wanted to talk about how the flood might have happened, he showed a description and animation of the hydroplate theory, an account that is both scientifically reasonable and scripturally accurate. When the video was
over, the man wanted to accept Christ and become a Christian! This was very surprising! When asked what led him to that conclusion, he stated that he really didn't have trouble believing the rest of the Bible. But, he believed that the whole flood story was a myth, that it was an impossible event. This was keeping him from total faith. Once he saw a reasonable mechanism for how it might have happened, he immediately concluded that the Word of God was trustworthy after all!
So, be ready. Keep learning. Keep growing. You never know when something you say might seriously help someone find Christ!
